Airlines Boeing raises forecast for India Our Bureau
Bangalore , Feb. 7 BOEING said that India will need $35 billion worth of aircraft in the next 15 years, about $10 billion more than what the aircraft maker had forecast earlier. Boeing, which is bidding for an order for 50 medium and long-range aircraft worth about $7 billion, said the availability of seats in India had grown to 5 lakh this year from 50,000 three years ago. "No other market will see the kind of growth that will come here," the Boeing's Senior Vice-President, Mr Dinesh Keskar, said. Mr Keskar said Boeing had earlier estimated that India would need 317 aircraft worth some $25 billion. But the rapid growth had made Boeing to revise the estimates, he said. He said Boeing revises its estimates every June. But this time, it may do it much earlier. Mr Keskar said by 2023, there would be 21,000 aircraft. In India, there are 125 jets compared with 6,000 in the US.
