Airlines Malaysia Airlines plans flights from Tiruchi, Amritsar Our Bureau
Kolkata , Feb. 3 HAVING launched thrice-a-week flights on the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata-Kuala Lumpur sector, Malaysia Airlines is toying with the idea of launching flight operations to other Indian destinations such as Tiruchi, Thiruvananthapuram and Amritsar. The airline already operates flights to seven Indian destinations, including Kolkata. Malaysia Airlines currently operates seven flights a week on the Kuala Lumpur-Chennai and Kuala Lumpur-Mumbai sectors. It operates four flights a week to Delhi and three flights a week to Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. A total of 18,486 seats are on offer on the Kuala Lumpur-India-Kuala Lumpur sector every week. On this sector, the airline operates Airbus A330-300, Boeing 747-400 and Boeing 777-200 aircraft. On the Kuala Lumpur-Kolkata-Kuala Lumpur sector, Malaysian Airlines will operate an Airbus 330-300 aircraft having a seating capacity of 44 business class and 248 economy class seats. The thrice-a-week flights would be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and be of three hours forty minutes duration. Flight MH 183 would depart Kolkata at 0235 hours and arrive at Kuala Lumpur at 0840 hours Malaysia time. The return flight will leave Kuala Lumpur at 2340 hours local time and reach Kolkata at 0100 hours IST. A promotional launch package will be on offer for the next two months. On a payment of Rs 16,999 passengers can avail of a four-days-three-nights package, which includes return economy fare, accommodation in a star category hotel in Kuala Lumpur, airport transfers and a half-day sightseeing tour. The offer is valid ex-Kolkata and can be availed till March 31. Addressing a news conference here , the Managing Director of Malaysian Airlines, Mr Ybhg Dato Ahmad Fuaad Dahlan, said Kolkata was the second city where the airline had launched its operations in the last 33 days, the other being Ahmedabad. The airline was bullish about its presence in Indian skies and would launch initiatives to attract passengers. For example, competitive fares would be introduced to attract honeymooners.
