Rlys allots Rs 15 cr for upkeep of Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus

THE Railways has earmarked Rs 15 crore for the upkeep of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the erstwhile Victoria Terminus.

The railway station in Mumbai was declared as a World Heritage Building by the UNESCO in July 2004.

Of the total amount, Rs 5 crore has been allocated for the current fiscal year (2004-05). A committee headed by the Principal Chief Engineer of Central Railway has been constituted to oversee the maintenance and decongestion of this World Heritage site, informed an official release. The construction of the terminus, designed by Mr F.M. Stevens, started in 1878 and was completed in 1888.
