Bangalore , Feb. 2

AERO India 2005, which opens here next week, will be the first air show for PowerJet, the young joint venture of Snecma Moteurs of France and NPO Saturn of Russia. It will be housed at the Sukhoi booth.

Established in July 2004, PowerJet makes the new generation SaM146 engine for small jets and is in charge of their entire SaM146 programme management, including design, production, marketing and customer support and services.

Russian aircraft manufacturer, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company, selected it to power the Russian Regional Jet family.

The engine gives a thrust of 14,000-17,500 and is a perfect fit for the 60-, 75- and 95-seater versions of the RRJ.

Several major airlines worldwide have shown their interest in the engine, according to a company release.

Snecma Moteurs is a leading designer and manufacturer of aircraft and rocket engines.

PowerJet's other parent, NPO Saturn, is Russia's leading designer and maker of gas turbine machinery for civil, defence aviation industry and for land-based power plants.
