IA union opposes decision

KOCHI: Air Corporation Employees Union of Indian Airlines has protested the decision of the southern regional management to close down the Indian Airlines booking offices in Kochi, Kozhikode and Coimbatore on Sundays.

The city booking office of Indian Airlines at Thiruvananthapuram has already been closed on Sundays.

According to a press release from the union, the booking offices in Kochi, Kozhikode and Coimbatore are patronised by a valuable clientele every day, including Sundays, for ticket endorsements, re-routing, enquiries and bookings. The union also endorsed the popular view that the Indian Airlines booking offices at these stations should be kept open on Sundays too.

It was pointed out that due to an earlier decision, 350 sq. ft. of prime land in the heart of Kochi that had housed the city cargo office had been lying vacant for the past seven years.
