Mr Vijay Mallya said his proposed value airlines, Kingfisher Air, would take off on May 7 and the commercial flights will start on May 9.

The airline ticket bookings are scheduled to start on April 1.

"We will initially start with Mumbai-Delhi sector followed by Mumbai-Bangalore and Bangalore-Delhi sectors. Our business model is to operate multiple flights daily in each sector. The airline, which will offer the best in-flight experience, will start on May 7, the day when my son Siddharth Mallya turns 18," Mr Mallya said.

Kingfisher Air has entered into an Rs 8,100 crore-purchase agreement with Airbus for 30 A-320s.
