Two-wheeler sales cross 6 m units in 2004

THE two-wheeler industry crossed the 6-million mark in the calendar year January - December 2004.

The performance of the motorcycle segment has been impressive registering a growth of 19.5 per cent during the calendar year 2004, whereas the cumulative growth for Apr-Dec 2004 has been 19 per cent.

According to a release issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), the motorcycle segment is making a second come back registering a growth of over 15 per cent.

Meanwhile, the passenger vehicles comprising passenger cars, utility vehicles and multipurpose vehicles registered a growth of 21.79 per cent. The domestic sales of passenger cars have shown a growth of 22 per cent, while the commercial vehicle segment has performed well with a growth of 26 per cent.
