AP refutes charges of laxity

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Government has refuted charges of laxity with regard to arrangements made for the funeral of former Prime Minister, Mr P.V. Narasimha Rao, held here on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr K. Rosaiah, senior Congress leader and Finance Minister, said there were no lapses whatsoever.

"PV's family members were satisfied with the arrangements," he said, refuting widespread reports in local print and electronic media. Showing pictures of the half-burnt body of the late leader, the media alleged that the Government failed in making proper arrangements for the funeral. There was no "negligence" of any kind, he asserted.

The Congress leader pointed out that the last rites were performed as per the tradition.

The Government had placed a few officers at the cremation site for the past two to three days to oversee the arrangements.
