A welcome move

The article titled `Indian banks to open branches in Pak soon' (Business Line, Nov. 25) certainly brings welcome news.

The move could pave the way for promoting trade and commerce, industry and other financial services. However, the India-Iran gas pipeline passing through Pakistan also regarded as a confidence building measure needs careful consideration, taking into account the amount of risks involved.

Reports that there may not be any cost advantage over gas shipped in the form of LNG, the Iran factor, the costs involved and future alternate energy revolutions are all factors that need prudent thinking.
