Subsidy scheme for rural godowns extended

THE Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the continuation of the ongoing capital investment subsidy scheme for construction and renovation of rural godowns.

The scheme would be continued beyond September 30, 2004 during the years 2004-05 to 2006-07 with Central outlay of Rs 115 crore. This would create new storage capacity of 32 lakh tonnes and enhanced renovated capacity of 4 lakh tonnes. The additional capacity would enable farmers to enhance their holding capacity.
