Veritas Soft to expand R&D

VERITAS Software Corporation has announced that it is planning to aggressively expand its research and development capabilities in India by adding new facilities and increasing head count from the current 900 to an estimated 1,400 in the next year.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of the fact that Veritas Software India is all set to become the largest R&D centre for Veritas by 2005 and already accounts for 27 per cent of the world wide headcount, contributing 32 per cent of the internal patent applications filed worldwide for the company.

Talking to press persons here on Wednesday, the Chief Technology Officer, Mr Mark Bregman, said the expansion at

Veritas Software India will address the critical areas of growth in scale of operations and enhance the technical seniority and expertise of the team to make it the single largest R&D centre by next year.

"Having achieved a critical mass in head count and products, we now plan to go aggressive in hiring laterally so that we bring in experienced people to take on key responsibilities and help us manage the rapid pace at which we are growing in India," Mr Shara Sharma, Vice-President, Operations and General Manager, India said..
