IIM-A plans research centres for retail, insurance sectors

Our Bureau

Ahmedabad , Sept. 29

THE Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has decided to set up two new research centres for retail and insurance sectors in partnership with industry.

While Hindustan Lever Ltd would pay Rs 15 lakh each year for the next five years to set up the Centre for Retail, global insurance giant Aviva had agreed to fund the Centre for Insurance, although the funding details were still being worked out, the IIM-A officials said here.

The Centre for Retail would seek to aggregate the best practices from across the world to improve the quality and efficiency of delivering products to the consumer.

It will also develop teaching and training materials and the institute's students would have the option of taking retail management as an elective subject, the officials said.

The institute had already introduced life and health insurance programmes for its students; the new centre was expected to cater to the growing demand for insurance professionals in the country.
