Balaji Rail bags Singapore order

Hyderabad , Aug. 19

ALSTOM Transport of Singapore has selected the Hyderabad-based Balaji Railroad Systems Ltd (BARSYL) to execute a project for the Singapore Metro.

BARSYL has to design and supply special rail panel transport train sets for use in the construction of the Circle Line of the Metro. It will supply 8 train sets of three special wagons each. The project has to be completed by the end of October. The first shipments will start in September, Mr Sunil Srivastava, Executive Director of the company, told Business Line.

The order worth $225,000 is the second bagged by BARSYL from Singapore. It had earlier supplied four similar train sects during the construction of the northeast line during 1999-2000, he said.

The performance of these supplies has made Alstom choose BARSYL for the present order, it said in a press release. While the previous order was bagged against stiff global competition, the present order has been offered directly based on track record. No other suppliers were considered, he said.
