Apollo Health plans to set up maternity centres

New Delhi , Aug. 16

APOLLO Health and Lifestyle Ltd (AHLL), a subsidiary of the Apollo group of hospitals, has drawn out an aggressive expansion plan in the healthcare retail segment.

Apart from expanding the Apollo Clinics, AHLL is experimenting with newer areas in healthcare retailing as well.

The company is in the process of setting up a chain of boutique `birthing centres' or child delivery centres called `The Cradle'.

"We plan to have 10-12 such centres in primarily cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ludhiana and so on," said Mr Ratan Jalan, CEO, AHLL.

"These will be upmarket centres and will carry no airs of a hospital. These will have a welcoming, warm ambience with quality medical care. All aspects will be looked after including food, music, etc., to pamper the mother-to-be. Also the medical staff at the centres will be screened by us. We have got fashion designer Ravi Bajaj to design the uniforms of the staff."

AHLL is taking the franchisee route for setting up `The Cradle'. Each outlet will be about 50,000 sq ft in size. The company is also exploring the possibility of setting up a chain of day surgery centres.

Meanwhile, AHLL plans to expand the number of Apollo clinics from 24 to 250 in the next 2-3 years, with a foray into the international markets as well.
