Kerala Minister's plea on LPG distribution

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Finance Minister, Mr K. Sankaranarayanan, has requested the Union Petroleum Minister to jack up with immediate effect availability of LPG cylinders for distribution in the State in order to enable it cope with peak demand during the Onam festival season.

An official spokesman quoted Mr Sankaranarayanan as observing in a communication to the Petroleum Minister, Mr Mani Shankar Iyer, that there existed a yawning up between demand for LPG supplies and its actual availability in the State. Oil companies have been finding it difficult to make available supplies in required numbers.

The Minister further said that the demand would go up to 1.5 lakh filled cylinders on a daily basis during the peak festival season. He urged the Union Minister to ensure that allocations are suitably scaled up to help the State meet with this increase in demand.
