Money & Banking - Non-Performing Assets

`Approve loans with caution'

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The evil of non-performing assets (NPAs) can be warded off with first hand and "pucca" information about the party, according to the Chairman of Karnataka Bank Ltd, Mr Ananthakrishna.

A bank release said he was addressing the members of the Chairman's Club and the Insurance Club here to distribute prizes to them for their good performance.

Cautioning the members to be judicious in the selection of parties, he asked them not to be carried away by the information furnished by the parties. "All that begins well ends well," he said.

Advising the members to expand the clientele base, Mr Ananthakrishna said they should explore the possibilities of increasing the credit portfolio of the bank with viable proposals.

They should reinforce the bank's income through core banking operations, as the prospect of revenue from treasury operations is getting dim.

Mr P. Jayarama Bhat, General Manager of Karnataka Bank, welcomed the gathering. Mr K.H. Shivaswamy Aithal, Deputy General Manager, proposed a vote of thanks. The General Managers, Mr N.S. Chakkera and Mr Jayagopal Yekkar, were present.
