THE Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has expressed concern over the "unfortunate events" taking place in the State over the past few weeks and urged the State Government to initiate immediate measures to resolve the situation.
The political crisis has resulted in a complete standstill of governance in the State. The agitation for issues related to the educational sector coupled with strikes in various other sectors is crippling normal life in Kerala, Mr N.R. Pai, the President of the Chamber, said. "What is most alarming is that no one seems to be taking any initiative to set things right," he added.
Kerala, Mr Pai said, is at a critical juncture in its development process. After several decades of being marginalised, the situation in the State has changed wherein investors are looking at it as a prospective investment destination. The just concluded visit of the top management of BMW is one such step.
However, the state of affairs today and the negative publicity arising out of the agitators' actions could once again result in Kerala being sidelined, he said.
The President appealed to all political leaders and right-thinking citizens to realise the seriousness of the current impasse and react positively to correct it.
The Chamber also advised the student community to desist from disruptive action keeping in mind their future and that of the State without becoming tools in the hands of vested interests.
