New Delhi , July 1

WORLD Phone today introduced an Internet-based international pre-paid calling card that would allow users to call the US at Rs 1.60 per minute.

The VoIP-based card branded - World Phone Premium - is available in denominations of Rs 100, Rs 250, Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 and supports calls to over 200 destinations including the US, the UK, France, Australia and Canada, Mr Aditya Ahluwalia, Chairman, World Phone Internet Services, said at a news conference here.

The Internet Service Provider hopes to make a dent in the branded VoIP-based calling cards market with this launch, saying its tariffs are the lowest in the country. At present, net telephony operators charge an average Rs 4 per minute for calls to the US.

The World Phone Premium allows users to place an international call from anywhere in India from a personal computer by downloading a dialer from World Phone's Website - www.worldphone.co.in. The user can connect to any phone in the countries where World Phone provides access, by using this dialer. Alternatively, customers can install a branded Internet Protocol (IP) phone and place an international call using his account identity number.

World Phone has launched this card in technological tie-up with US-based VoIP service provider Go2Call.

While calls to the US attracts a tariff of Rs 1.60 per minute, a call to Canada is priced at Rs 1.70 per minute, to the UK and Germany at Rs 2 per minute and to France at Rs 2.20 per minute.

A call to Saudi Arabia will cost Rs 8 a minute, while that to China and Japan are priced at Rs 3.50 per minute.

The company is eyeing a turnover of Rs 20 crore in the current year and looking at Rs 2 crore sales per month from this card, Mr Ahluwalia said.
