MERC for 8.5 pc cut in REL tariff

Mumbai , June 18

THE Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) today sought an 8.5 per cent cut in the average tariff charged by Reliance Energy Ltd.

Average tariff for the first 100 units used by households will include Rs 25 per month fixed charge and per unit variable cost of Rs 1.15.

In its decision on REL's annual revenue requirement, the MERC has streamlined the number of consumer categories and consumption slabs. The consumer will have to pay Rs 40 per unit fixed charges and Rs 3.20 per unit for 101 to 300 units energy used. For more than 300 units used, the charges will include Rs 40 fixed charge and a per unit charge of Rs 4.40.

Commercial users will have to pay a fixed charge of Rs 150 per month and a per unit charge of Rs 4, Rs 4.50 and Rs 5.50.

Agricultural consumers will have to pay Rs 15 per Horse Power per month and a per unit tariff of Rs 1.10.
