Letters Definitional differences
This is with reference to "The Definitional Differences" (Business Line, May 15). The FDI data released by China is considered to be so spurious, that a World Bank loan to revise and reappraise the data collection and publication activities of China, was sanctioned. Besides, China still embarks upon funds from round- tripping activities, which are nothing but surreptitious and underhand methods of doing business, which is given a legal status, when published as FDI data. This has to be stopped for two reasons: The international community must no longer give a legal sanction to such illegal activities (like round- tripping) and This inordinately puffs up the FDI data of China, thus making it the flamboyant destination for FDI, often costing India its share of global FDI.
