`Talks are being held with port authorities and other stakeholders in the cargo business here'

Kolkata , May 13

ASSET tracking company SpartaMatrix Inc of Hong Kong is working on plans to set up a call centre in India, according to its CEO & Chairman, Mr Philip H. Wainwright.

Speaking to newspersons after showcasing what SpartaMatrix does for the global intermodal transportation industry, Mr Wainwright said Kolkata was among the cities where the proposed call centre could well be located.

A firm decision in this regard would be taken soon; the proposed call centre is expected to be operational by August 1.

The call centre would engage about 120 people.

The company already has a call centre in Kuala Lumpur. It also has software development centres in Kuala Lumpur and in Australia.

Mr Wainwright said SpartaMatrix's IT compliance systems were presently being used in 34 ports across the world with Hong Kong having the largest usage.

The company offers three systems - global container compliance tracking, SmartPort design and implementation and Commercial Smart facilities.

"Our products include Smart Ports, Smart Buildings and Smart Containers," Mr Wainwright said, adding that SpartaMatrix had implemented systems for online and offline tracking of over 450 million TEUs per annum.

Talks were being held with port authorities and other stakeholders in the cargo business in India with a view to securing contracts for the implementation of SpartaMatrix's tracking systems.

In the long term, the company was open to the idea of setting up a container manufacturing facility in India, Mr Wainwright said.
