Retailing Baskin Robbins plans to increase outlets Neha Kaushik
New Delhi , May 8 WITH its new strategy for the Indian market in place, premium ice cream maker Baskin Robbins is aiming at expanding aggressively yet profitably in the country. The company is planning to increase its number of outlets from 127 to 175 this year, said Mr M. Satyadev, Area Manager - North, Baskin Robbins. The outlets would vary in size, however, according to the location, ranging from huge outlets in key areas to kiosks. In places such as shopping malls, Baskin Robbins would have a presence through carts. The company is also set to enter the retail segment this quarter. "We are planning to roll out 0.5 litre and 1 litre packs in selected retail outlets this year," says Mr Satyadev. Another increasing source of revenue is the institutional segment, with the company supplying its ice creams to various hotels, airlines and even the railways now. Meanwhile, to increase the appeal of its ice creams to more people, Baskin Robbins has been experimenting with more Indian flavours. Over the last four months, it has rolled out flavours such as sitaphal, boondi and now even gulab jamun, which it claims has done well. With its range of initiatives, the company is eyeing a growth of about 35 per cent in volumes this year.
