Management Germany keen on enhancing ties with other nations Our Bureau
Manipal , Nov. 23 THE importance attached by Germans to punctuality, perfection and precision has helped them produce quality products in the world market, the General Manager of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce, Bangalore, Ms A. D'Souza, has said. Presiding over the inaugural of the workshop on "Management Education: Quality and Competitiveness" organised by the Manipal Institute of Management as part of "Bremen meets Manipal" programme of Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany, she said that Germans turned a deterrent to their benefit after World War II. Elaborating, Ms D'Souza said though the Germans were forced to put the "Made in Germany" seal on all their products by the British after World War II, the former took benefit of this and produced quality products. The British thought that this seal would affect their market potential. The Germans even today are known for the quality of their products, she added. Prof Freidrich Lehmann, Director, International Relations, Bremen University of Applied Sciences, said that his country believes in enhancing cooperation with other nations. Bremen University, which has a tie up with Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), accords importance to mutual coordination, he said. He said the "merchant approach" of Germany has helped it in areas such as industries, production, and trading. Under this approach, major industries such as steel and coal were connected without any scope for rivalry. Giving details of his university, he stated that Bremen University decided to give international orientation to its courses 20 years ago. Considering the need for international experience for a successful global career, the university has made one-year experience abroad compulsory for its students. This will make them learn the basic realities in a different environment and prepare them for their future career, he added. Prof K.V.M. Varambally, Director of Manipal Institute of Management, welcomed the gathering.
