Delhi HC gives Govt three weeks to test Pepsi samples

New Delhi , Aug. 11

THE Delhi High Court on Monday asked the Government to test soft-drink samples of PepsiCo India and submit the results in three weeks.

The court's order was in response to a petition by PepsiCo late last week, asking the court to direct the Government not to rely on the report by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE). The court also asked the Government to prescribe new standards on pesticide limits in soft drinks as the current regulations do not address such contamination.

Significantly, PepsiCo India and its bottler, which had petitioned for a restrain order on CSE, withdrew the allegations of malafide against the NGO.

Meanwhile, the court also asked PepsiCo to file its response to the August 6 communication of Canteen Stores Department of the Defence Ministry stopping the purchase of soft drink majors' products.

In a communiqué issued later on Monday, CSE welcomed the court's directive.
