Channels and Franchises Deepak Roy keen on Famous Grouse distribution Boby Kurian
Bangalore , Aug. 11 Mr DEEPAK Roy, the liquor industry veteran who bought out Diageo's Indian whiskies last year, is interested in taking up distribution of the Famous Grouse Scotch Whisky, which is currently seeking a trading partner in the country. Mr Roy's Triumph Distillers & Vintners (TDV), led by the mass-marketed Green Label whisky, has been on the lookout for an active presence in the rapidly growing domestic Scotch market. However, there has been no discussion between Mr Roy and Highland Distillers on the matter yet. The Glasgow-based Highland Distillers, which owns Famous Grouse, in a statement from London, said it is continuing talks with various Indian companies regarding the distribution of its Scotch whisky products within the Indian market. Mr Paul Ross, Director of Emerging Markets, said that like many other international companies operating within his "vibrant economic environment", Highland Distillers would continue to reassess business opportunities as they arose. This came in response to a report published in this newspaper that Radico Khaitan had initiated talks to engage the Scottish company in a distribution pact. Speaking to Business Line, Mr Deepak Roy, Chief Executive of TDV, said his company would be interested in pitching for the distribution of Famous Grouse if it was available. "We are interested in taking up distribution of a Scotch whisky and Famous Grouse is a good brand," Mr Roy said. Mr Roy, who steered UDV into the country and headed its operations for eight years, has prior experience in managing Scotch whiskies such as Johnnie Walker and J&B. Famous Grouse is touted as the fastest growing imported Scotch whisky in the country.
