Broadcasters commissioning own surveys

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 9

THE absence of an independent research agency to measure listenership of radio has resulted in radio companies commissioning their own surveys.

According to an IMRB survey, Times Group's Radio Mirchi rules the airwaves in Delhi. Another one, conducted by Development & Research Services (DRS) has put 93.5 RED FM (from the India Today stable) as the most popular FM radio station in Delhi

According to the DRS study, RED FM rules the roost with the top slots in radio listenership being occupied by various programmes on the station. Radio Mirchi, on its part claimed that radio listeners tune in for 118 minutes each day compared to 138 minutes spent on watching TV. The unavailability of a proper listenership measurement system is being felt by the industry.
