Need for transparency

The Office of the Commissioner of Customs (Seaport) has said that following a directive from Central Board of Excise and Customs, Department of Revenue, Government of India, dated May 25, the fields relating to the identity of the importer/exporter shall henceforth be removed from all daily lists of imports/exports data provided to the subscribers. These changes have been made with effect from June-2003 data onwards.

This means that the countrymen will not know anymore who has imported or exported the product.

Only the name of the products and quantity and price of the commodities would be publicised.

For proper transparency, it is not only necessary that the Government know the details, but also the common man.
