Reservations

This is with reference to "Reservations on reservation" (Business Line, July 14). The article is thought provoking, and raises three important questions on reservation and its impact on social justice.

One, can we sustain social harmony without social justice? Does the stipulation of 25 years by US Supreme court as stated in the article for following a system which considers individual cases for admissions in educational institutions indicate the system's period of sustainability?

Two, is the goodwill of others towards the SC/ST influenced by the formal education system?

And three, does the author believe that "either of the two options — open test or reservation in private sector — will fetch more votes to the politicians in the Indian context with the given level of illiteracy?
