Lock-in period

This refers to "Fault lines: `15-year lock-in period too long'" (Business Line, July 15). It is a fact that the long period of 15 years is pregnant with so many possibilities and eventualities. Anyway, the senior citizens should be happy that the Varishtha Pension Bima Yojana has been launched amidst so many apprehensions.

Now the Centre should promote more social security-based schemes, especially in the health sector. The common man can ill afford to approach private hospitals on account of the high charges, and the government hospitals reportedly pay scant attention to patients.
