CERC set to review orders

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, June 11

THE Central sector power regulator, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC), will be reviewing some of its earlier orders including the controversial Availability Based Tariffs (ABT) order.

"We are reviewing a whole host of orders issued by us earlier to see whether they are in line with the Electricity Act, 2003," Mr A.K. Basu, Chairman, CERC, said today at an interactive session organised by the CII.

The ABT order, issued in 2000, resulted in inter-state generator National Thermal Power Corporation's revenues tumbling since the technical and financial norms were tightened. The validity of the tariff order is also under review, according to Mr Basu. Currently, the orders are valid for a period of three years.
