HYDERABAD, June 11 THE global software giant, Microsoft has indicated that it will commence construction of its India Development Centre, adjacent to the Indian School of Business at Manikonda near here, on July 7, according to Mr M.V.S. Prasad, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC). Mr Prasad told Business Line that the Andhra Pradesh Government had allotted 13 acres of land in the first phase to Microsoft for the establishment of its centre at Hyderabad and an additional 15 acres would be handed over to the company in the second phase. During his visit to India last year, Microsoft Chairman, Mr. Bill Gates, had indicated that his corporation intended to invest $ 100 million in the country. Stating that infrastructure projects in the State had picked up momentum, the APIIC Chief said that the corporation would be issuing the request for proposals (RFPs) in a couple of days to the eight industrial groups that have submitted expression of interests (EOIs) for establishment of the proposed special economic zone (SEZ) at Visakhapatnam. The groups that submitted EOIs for the establishment of the SEZ were Krisson, JTCI and Zoom Developers, Watsila India, Gamen India, TC group of Singapore, L & T, Videocon and Gayatri, Sreya with Meinheart of Singapore and GMR Vasavi. The State Government had identified 3,680 hectares of site located about 50 km south of Visakhapatnam port for the SEZ. Mr Prasad said the consortium of Krisson, JTCI and Zoom developers, which was selected for the development of a pharma city at Parvada, near Visakhapatnam, had informed that they would achieve financial closure by this Friday. The Rs 1,000-crore pharma city project was envisaged by the State Government to set up world-class pharma manufacturing facilities at one place. He said the construction of the Visakhapatnam Industrial Water Supply Project was at a hectic pace. The Rs 500-crore project was scheduled to be completed by January 2004. Similarly, Emmar Properties of Dubai, which had been selected for the construction of a Rs 380-crore convention centre near Hyderabad, had commenced operations.
