NEW DELHI, June 11

WIPRO Spectramind has emerged as the frontrunner in a survey on the top-15 third party IT-enabled services (call centre and BPO) companies based on revenues for 2002-03 reported in accordance with US GAAP, conducted by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom).

The apex industry body of software and service companies has placed WNS Group and Daksh eServices Pvt. Ltd at the second and third position respectively followed by ExlService (I) Pvt Ltd, HCL Technologies BPO Services Ltd and Convergys India Service Pvt Ltd.

The other ITES companies in order are GTL Ltd, MsourceE India Pvt Ltd, Hinduja TMT Ltd, ICICI oneSource Ltd, Sutherland Technologies Pvt Ltd, Epicenter Technologies Pvt Ltd, Zenta Technologies, 24/7 Customer and Datamatics Technologies Ltd.

The ITES-BPO segment contributes 25 per cent of the total IT software and service exports from India and witnessed a growth of 59 per cent to reach Rs 11,300 crore (US $2.3 billion) in 2002-03.

As for the methodology for ranking, Nasscom has noted that it collects figures from its member companies on a quarterly basis for the IT software services and ITES industry. These figures are collated on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India. In addition to this, Nasscom also sends out a detailed snap survey questionnaire annually to all its member companies, accounting for 95 per cent of the Indian IT software and services industry revenue. Information collated through the questionnaire includes aggregate performance; service lines; verticals and geographies. The snap survey form also takes into account the contribution of the 100 per cent-owned overseas subsidiaries after deducting all the double accounting.

The survey has been released on the eve of the annual two-day Nasscom ITEeS-BPO Strategy Summit that begins in Bangalore on Thursday.

The two-day event is expected to comprehensively cover trends in the industry as well as issues faced by the industry. Global thought leaders and industry experts will discuss ongoing trends and provide insights into the industry's future.
