Kerala Ministerial team for Gulf

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An official delegation headed by the Minister for Non-Resident Keralite (NRK) Affairs, Mr M.M. Hassan, has set off on a tour of a group of Gulf nations for popularising a slew of welfare programmes the State Government has formulated for the benefit of NRKs.

The team will tour the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar and peddle the welfare schemes, including the Pravasi Swasraya, an insurance scheme jointly developed by the Roots-NRK Development Initiative, a company formed for the purpose, and the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The insurance scheme has received good response from Gulf Malayalis, a spokesman said here.

The Roots-ROOTS Initiative has structured many novel schemes such as tailor-made small-scale enterprises in all district centres, food production and processing facilities and various job-oriented training programmes. The high-level team also comprises Mr Jiji Thomson, Secretary, and Mr M. Aravindakshan, Joint Secretary, NORKA, and Mr Satheesh Nambudiripad, Chief Executive, Roots-NRK Initiative.
