IPR Aventis sues Dr Reddy's, alleges patent infringement Our Bureau
HYDERABAD, March 27 AVENTIS Pharmaceuticals Inc has filed a lawsuit against Dr Reddy's Laboratories Ltd, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, alleging infringement by the latter on patents pertaining to Allegra tablets. The lawsuit came in the wake of the filing of an abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) by Dr Reddy's with the US Food and Drug administration (USFDA) for Fexofenadine HCl tablets, the generic version of Aventis' Allegra tablets. In a statement, Dr Reddy's said it had notified Aventis, upon which the latter filed a lawsuit against the company in the US District Court for the district of New Jersey alleging patent infringement on six Orange Book patents. Fexofenadine HCl, indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis, had recorded annual sales of around $ 1.25-billion for Aventis in the US market last year. Dr Reddy's announced here on Wednesday that it had filed an ANDA for Fexofenadine HCl tablets equivalent to 30 mg, 60 mg and 180 mg of base with paragraph-IV certifications on all seven Orange Book patents listed for Allegra tablets.
