Channels and Franchises Marketing - Channels and Franchises Yamaha picks component suppliers Neha Kaushik
NEW DELHI, Feb. 18 AS part of its strategy to make India into a component hub for the company, Yamaha Motor India has selected several local suppliers and begun exports of components to a few Yamaha subsidiaries in other global markets. "We have already selected about 8-10 suppliers, which have started exporting various components to countries such as Brazil among others", Mr S.K. Taneja, Executive Director, Yamaha Motor India Pvt. Ltd, said. The suppliers have been selected by a team from the parent company. Business Line had reported that a team of representatives from Yamaha Motor Asian Centre Company (established in Thailand) was in the country to study the component supplier facilities here and adjudge their competitiveness. Mr Taneja said that in order to select more component suppliers there would be regular visits from the parent company. In the past, Yamaha Motor India has also arranged for visits of vendors to its other group subsidiaries located in countries such as Japan and Thailand. Meanwhile, Mr Taneja said that Yamaha was planning to introduce two to three new products (including variants) this year. This would include a new variant of the 125-cc Enticer, which would be equipped with self-start and disc brakes. It will also launch a new, more "economical" variant of its volume-spinner, Crux, which has made inroads into the rural/semi-urban markets. The company officials had said earlier that Crux would have a higher fuel economy and would be made available at a lesser cost. Meanwhile, Yamaha's new launches this year are expected to be in the 100-cc and 125-cc segment. When asked whether Yamaha is looking to introduce new, high-powered bikes through the CBU (completely built units) route, Mr Taneja said that the company was studying the option and no decision had been taken in this regard yet.
