Airlines Logistics - Trade & Labour Unions Strike call may affect air services tomorrow Our Bureau
NEW DELHI, Feb. 18 AIR services in the country could be disrupted on Thursday with the Air Corporation Employee's Union (ACEU) threatening to launch protest action on that day against the Government decision to tax the free and concessional passes which are given to airline employees. "The free and concessional passages availed by the employees are part of the welfare facilities. The passages availed by the employees and their families are as non-revenue passengers and subject to space being available. The cost of passage is by no means an income as far as the employee is concerned and cannot be termed as revenue for the airlines. Therefore, there is no justification for imposing income-tax on these passage," the ACEU has said in a statement. The statement adds that an earlier Government notification, by which Leave Travel Concession (LTC) facility enjoyed by various sections came under the purview of Income-Tax, had to be withdrawn due to protests from diverse groups including Government employees and Railways. The statement further points out that airline employees do not get LTC facilities. The statement adds that associations and unions in Indian Airlines, Air India, private airlines and staff of foreign airlines in India will also launch similar protest action.
