Our Bureau

KOLKATA, Feb. 18

EMPLOYEES of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) owing allegiance to the BSNL Employees Union have threatened to intensify their on-going agitation if their 27-point charter of demands is not met by the authorities by next month.

These demands include an assurance that there will be no disinvestment of Government equity in BSNL, revision of pay scales for some categories of staff, removal of distinction between industrial and regular workers, appointments on compassionate grounds to be provided to family members of those who die in harness, graded promotions after every five years and withdrawal of the proposed hike in fixed telephone tariff that is slated to take effect from April this year, among others.

A stay-in demonstration was held here today by the BSNL Employees Union, representing employees from West Bengal Telecom Circle, Kolkata Telecom Circle, Telecom Factory Circle and Telecom Stores Circle.
