Human Resources IIM-C attracts hirers from insurance cos, NGOs Our Bureau
KOLKATA, Feb.18 THE latest summer placement programme of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) has attracted insurance companies and non-government organisations (NGOs) for the first time. The first-timers to the campus this year included Aviva, an insurance joint venture between CGU and Dabur, and National Kidney Foundation of Singapore. Some of the others who paid their maiden visit were FritoLay and Evalueserve. IIM-C recently concluded a summer placement programme after placing its entire batch of 254 students. A total of 20 foreign offers were made to the students this year. The sectoral break-up of the summer internships is as follows: 33 per cent in marketing, 20 per cent in finance, 16 per cent in IT, 15 per cent in operations and six per cent in consulting. Nearly 80 companies participated in the programme. These included banks like ABN Amro, American Express and Deutsche Bank; FMCG companies like ITC, Nestle and Marico; consultants like Pricewaterhouse Coopers and IT firms like Cognizant and Wipro. Besides, there were Indian business groups like RPG and Murugappa as well as FIs like ICICI and IDBI. The sectors that made a "strong comeback'' (after spending a few years quietly) included auto, IT consulting and manufacturing, a press release issued by IIM-C said. The number of firms that participated in the final placements process has recorded a steady increase over the years, it is pointed out. The trend is expected to continue this year as well.
