CDAC revamped; to focus on R&D

PUNE, Feb. 17

THE Electronics Research and Development Centre (ER&DCI), the National Centre for Software Technology (NCST) and the Centre for Electronics Design and Technology, India (CEDTI), Mohali, have been merged with with the Pune-based Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC). The merger has come into effect from December 16, 2002.

According to an official release from CDAC, the restructured CDAC would combine the strength of the merged entities to consolidate focus on research and development. It was also expected that the merger would offer economies of scale and avoid duplication of work, it said.

The areas of R&D focus would include high-performance computing, hardware and embedded systems, information security, digital/broadband and wireless communication, IT Applications Natural Language Processing and Multilingual Technologies, Knowledge Management and Software Engineering, Geomatics and Real Time Systems and Software.
