CHENNAI, Jan. 9

SAMSUNG India plans to set up 50 high-end stores called the Samsung Digitall Home by the end of 2003.

These stores, which exclusively showcase the company's products, are more lifestyle oriented. This helps the customer visualise the product in his or her home, according to a press release.

Besides Chennai, Samsung India has, at present, seven such stores in Chandigarh, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Delhi and Pune. These showrooms also include the Samsung audio range, the mobile phones and IT-related products. The full range of Samsung printers, fax machines, copiers and scanners will also be on display.

The Chennai showroom that was opened on Friday has an exclusive parking facility, said Mr Ajit Kumar Chordia, partner, Khivraj and Co, which owns the Samsung Digitall Home. According to him, the Khivraj group is in talks with a Korean company for a multi level-parking complex in Anna Salai, which would solve the parking problems being experienced by shoppers and business people in the area.

The 70-year-old Khivraj group is a dealer for Maruti and Bajaj Auto, and has interests in real estate. The group has also invested into non-conventional energy sources and its 2MW wind energy project will be commissioned by February. It will also launch its `Maruti True Value' used-car retailing outlet soon.
