Announcements Aban bags order for GRP pipes Our Bureau
CHENNAI, Jan. 1 ABAN Constructions Pvt Ltd, part of the Chennai-based Aban group, has bagged a contract to supply and install 42 km of GRP (glass reinforced fibre) pipes for effluent discharge in Gujarat. According to an Aban Constructions press release, the order value is Rs 32 crore, including operation and maintenance for the first year. The project is being implemented for Bharuch Eco Aqua Infrastructure Ltd. The release said that Aban won the contract against competition from companies such as Larsen & Toubro, Electro Steel Casting and Carbon Ever Flow. The pipes would be manufactured in 12 m length and the project is expected to be completed in 14 months from January 1, 2003. The use of GRP pipes for water and sewage transportation had been introduced in Gujarat for the first time, the release said. It said that Aban had a tie-up with Hepworth of the UK for technology transfer. The pipes would be manufactured locally using the facilities of a company called Strategic Engineering Pvt Ltd. When contacted, Mr Renny Abraham, Managing Director, Aban Constructions, told Business Line that the company's tie-up with Hepworth was for sourcing the double helix winding technology for making the pipes. There were three types of technology available for making these pipes all of which were with European companies, he said.
