Release of Polaris chief

This is with reference to the editorial "L'affaire Polaris" (Business Line, December 20). The detention of Polaris CEO, Mr Arun Jain, in Indonesia had sent shock waves, not only among the software professionals but also the entire public.

As pointed out in the editorial, the action suggests a breach of accepted norms of legal process in such matters, and has to be condemned.

Mr Jain was released only through the efforts of the Centre. Steps should be taken and safeguards built into trade agreements under the WTO framework to prevent such incidents in the future.
