SSI unwraps bioinformatics course

CHENNAI: SSI Ltd has launched a one-year long-term course on bio-informatics. The course demands a prerequisite basic knowledge in life science and computers, is split into three modules of four months each, says a company release.

The modules cover various bio-informatics related topics such as proteomics, genomics, bio-informatic tools, bioweave, molecular biology, pharmaco genomics and advanced Genetics. The final module will allow the student to take up a project through which he will be able to apply his bio-informatics knowledge to an area of his choice, the release adds.

SSI would offer the course in association with Gemiosys Research Labs, a Chennai based research organisation working in the field of Biotechnology and specialising in bio-informatics.

It has a varied experience in the development of scientific computing, networking and high throughput platforms to aid research in the area of drug discovery, says the release. The course would be offered at select SSI centres across the country, adds the release.
