MUMBAI, Dec. 24 THE soya food festival organised by the Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) in Indore with a view to highlighting the nutritional and health benefits of the legume and popularising its use in food preparations has met with tremendous success, the organisers said. Sponsored by the State Bank of Indore, Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd, American Soybean Association and Shakti Sugars Ltd, the two-day food festival Daawat-e-soy showcased the potential of the wonder bean in solving major nutritional and health problems. The ``chemo-preventive'' quality of soya phytochemical is reported to reduce the risk of chronic diseases in a myriad ways. The US FDA has stated that 25 g of soya protein a day reduces the risk of heart diseases. Research has shown that processed soyabean products are high in protein value and offer great flexibility for incorporation in various types of traditional and popular foods such as besan and bakery products besides a variety of soya-based snacks.
