Cotton Lint prices rule firm Our Bureau
COIMBATORE, Dec. 20 COTTON lint prices remained firm and displayed an upward trend during the first fortnight of the month. Arrivals were in full swing in the Northern and Central zones. In Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan, lint prices remained firm. The daily arrivals were around 1,5000 bales. Bengal Desi was quoted at Rs 1,550-1,620 per maund spot. J-34 saw ginned was ruling at around the same level as in the November last fortnight at Rs 1,680 and Rs 1,750 per maund spot. A firm trend prevailed in Gujarat as well, despite the general elections in that State. The arrivals, though, were slow. V-797 was ruling at Rs 13,000-13,500 per candy spot, while Shankar 6 (new) hovered between Rs 18,100 and Rs 19,300 per candy spot. In the last one year, the rate of Shankar-6 has risen sharply from Rs 16,000 a candy around December 2001 to the present level of Rs 19,000. The Maharashtra Federation maintained the price level during the last fortnight. Federation sources report the opening of an additional 200 procurement centres. In the southern zone, comprising Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh lint prices firmed up during the last fortnight. In AP, H-4, LK, B-6 lot arrivals were reported in Adilabad, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adoni markets. MCU 5 had not lost its sheen and continued to look up, quoting at Rs 21,000-23,900 per candy spot. In Karnataka, DCH, HY-4 and LRA were the lots that arrived in the markets of Hubli, Ranebennur and Bijapur.Local arrivals in Tamil Nadu comprised of the RCH-2 and DCH lots. Transactions were of moderate volume.
