Fishing harbour plan for Mangalore

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Karnataka Government is learnt to be in the process of initiating a proposal for construction of a fishing harbour near Mangalore.

In a letter to the Union Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ajit Singh, the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has asked the Ministry to take the project up as part of its `primary agenda' for the development of coastal Karnataka.

The Union Ministry of Agriculture is understood to have indicated `in principle' that the project could be financed by the Union Government.
