President presents Space Gold Medals

BANGALORE: The President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on Monday presented the 2001 Space Gold Medals to five outstanding ISRO personnel during his visit to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.

The Astronautical Society of India (ASI), Bangalore, instituted the annual medals for the Department of Space in 2001 out of the interest earned from a corpus fund donated by a space scientist. The recipients are: Ms V.R. Lalithambika, VSSC; Dr C.G. Patil, Master Control Facility, Hassan; Mr Saji A. Kuriakose, Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad; Mr M.K.R. Varma, Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota; and Mr K. Bagavathi Asari, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore.
