New Projects Madras Cements to make spray plasters Our Bureau
CHENNAI, Oct. 28 MADRAS Cements Ltd has set up a Rs 15-crore plant at Sriperumbudur, about 50 km from here, to manufacture a range of spray plasters to be used by the construction industry. The plant, with a capacity of 40 tonne per hour, is expected to begin manufacture early next month and the products will be launched shortly thereafter, according to company officials. The spray plasters, according to them, can be mechanically sprayed on brick, concrete or hollow brick surfaces. The company also plans to launch a system of wall preparation like corner profiles and angle profiles for better surface and for easier plastering. "The products are formulated to enhance the quality of plasters and eventually increase the life of the walls and also give it the property of crack prevention," a company official said. The other major advantage was that it would allow the builder to reduce plastering time by more than 50 per cent. The plant is being manufactured in technical collaboration with m-tec of Germany, a world leader in Dry Mix Technology. The German company would also provide Madras Cements with the product and application technology. The range of dry mix products that would be produced at the Sriperumbudur plant at a later stage included self-levelling floor screeds, colour plasters and tile adhesives. These produces would initially be available in Chennai and later on in other places. According to Mr Balaji K. Moorthy, Senior Vice-President - Marketing, the construction industry uses a wide range of finishing materials, which are only as good as the surface on which they are applied. With the spray plasters being introduced by the company, the surface quality is assured, he said.
