The Netherlands-based centre would also work with the NIFT-TEA Fashion Institute in Tirupur.

COIMBATORE, Oct. 23

THE Centre for the Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries from the Netherlands that has offered to assist Tirupur-based knitwear producers in technological/marketing skill upgradation has identified 35 knitwear companies to receive its supportive inputs.

The centre would analyse the existing production, marketing strengths and weaknesses of small and medium enterprises and provide the required expertise for upgradation of technological and marketing skills.

A three-member team from the centre currently visiting Tirupur would also impart skills in areas such as designing and training of workers and render assistance in areas like the common code of conduct in business demanded by the European garment buying houses.

The Netherlands-based centre would also work with the NIFT-TEA Fashion Institute in Tirupur in areas such as fashion designing and skill improvement by suggesting improvement in curricula and extending needed equipment.

At the end of the 10-day long factory visits, the team is expected to make a presentation on the status of the identified units to be covered under its programme.

The team members — J F Laman Trip, Mr Hans Hunik and Ms Ariane Van Beuzekom — held discussions with the officials of the Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA), AEPC, NIFT-TEA and the Textile Committee, according to TEA sources.
