Sahara to sponsor cricket team

Our Bureau

NEW DELHI, Oct. 8

THE suspense over who will sponsor the Indian cricket team is over.

For the forthcoming series against the West Indies and the subsequent tournaments, the players will sport the Sahara logo. The Sahara Group has decided to resume its sponsorship of the cricket team.

In a statement, the company said that it had decided to renew its ties with the Indian squad after a request by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

"Sahara has taken into account the support displayed by BCCI to Sahara as the Indian team sponsor in future ICC events and BCCI's assurance towards the resolution of the logo issue prior to the World Cup of 2003," said the statement. The group would, however, still seek damages from those responsible for not displaying its logo at the Champions Trophy, it said.
